911 STORIES

Find below real life 911 stories where kids have had to think about an emergency situation and rely on their instincts and training. Children old enough to use a telephone are old enough to learn about 911 as the following stores demonstrate.  Just like adults who have completed emergency training courses such as CPR, children with the knowledge of how to properly use 911 can have the power to save lives.

"Even at the tender age of three Sylas understood to call 911 when his mother suddenly fell unconscious from a drop in blood sugar. Sylas remembering what his mother had taught him about calling 911 grabbed her smart phone and made a life-saving call."

"One year I had a little girl come up to use the simulator and when the recording said “911 Operator! What is your emergency?”  She said my mom died and I do not know what to do.  The teacher mouthed the words, “That really happened”.  I was able to continue but was obviously distracted. It really pointed out why I do what I do. I never want a child anywhere to not know about 911."

"We are so very grateful that our son Isaac's school had Paul Nicholson come in and teach the kids how to call 911 in an emergency in kindergarten, first and second grade. After a surgery, when Isaac was 9, my blood pressure dropped while at home and I passed out, which caused Isaac to call 911 and save me."

"Around 1990, I was almost killed by a drunk driver. I could have gone straight through the intersection to a rental I owned or turn right to go see my mother, who was in the hospital. If I would have gone straight, I would have been T-Boned at about 40 miles per hour by a drunk driver. At the next intersection, the drunk driver hit someone. I tried to pull him from the car but he took off. At another intersection, the drunk driver hit a van and made it do a 360. The lady had her 2 year old son with her in the car. He was OK but had she hit her head and started to go in an out of consciousness.

I called 911, pulled the drunk driver from the car, took his keys and ran to the van. I asked the lady for her husband’s cell number and then she passed out. Before the ambulance arrived, I had talked with the husband, found out there were no medical conditions or allergies for his wife or son. I explained his son was OK but his wife had hit her head. I told him she appeared to not be seriously hurt. The ambulance crew was impressed and appreciated my work."
